Over the years, I’ve tried various self-care products to help manage and soothe my symptoms. Here are some of my favorites that help me stay comfortable throughout the day.

I’ve been living with psoriasis for over 25 years, so I’ve had a long time to try new products. I’ve tried a lot of different things to help make me more comfortable and help soothe my psoriasis flares.

Here are some items that have become my daily go-to’s for living well with psoriasis.

1. A cozy robe

My robe is my happy place. The last thing I want to wear when my psoriasis is flaring is tight or irritating clothing.

My robe of choice is the Brooklinen Super-Plush Robe — it makes all the difference in providing relief. Plus, it’s easily washable when I have on extra layers of lotion or topical creams.

2. A water bottle for hydration

Hydration is key. It’s very rare to find me without my Simple Modern Water Bottle. Staying hydrated is crucial for managing psoriasis, as it helps to keep the skin moisturized from the inside out.

Whether I’m at home or out with my daughters, having easy access to water helps me stay hydrated throughout the day, which in turn helps alleviate the dryness and itchiness that comes with my psoriasis.

3. Lounge sets for working from home

As much as I’d like to, I can’t wear my robe when I’m working or on calls. It’s bulky and doesn’t exactly project professionalism.

To me, the next best thing is a soft lounge set that’s easy to throw on and won’t irritate my skin. My personal favorite is the DOBREVA Women’s Pajama Set from Amazon. It gives the appearance of looking put together while you’re staying comfortable and avoiding a lot of rubbing against your skin.

4. Vaseline everywhere

Vaseline is my tried-and-true remedy for soothing dry, irritated skin. It’s a staple in every room in my house and in every purse and coat pocket. I use it on psoriasis patches, dry skin, cuticles, and chapped lips.

Every night, I apply a thick coat all over my body to help soften plaques and skin overnight. It’s a little squishy, but it works so well.

5. My laptop

I love my MacBook Air because it allows me to work from anywhere. There are days when I’m uncomfortable or feeling psoriasis fatigue, and I can just take my laptop and sit on the couch. I can still get work done, but I’m not confined to my desk in our home office.

6. Humidifier

I love a humidifier to help combat dry skin all year round, and especially in winter. Maintaining a humid environment helps alleviate my skin’s dryness and itchiness.

I use the AquaOasis Cool Mist Humidifier. By adding moisture to the air, it helps prevent my skin from becoming overly dry and flaky, providing much-needed relief from my symptoms.

7. Sunscreen

While sunlight can sometimes help improve psoriasis symptoms, it’s incredibly important to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Trust me, a sunburn on psoriasis plaques will make you miserable.

I usually just use my kids’ sunscreen, but I also carry Mineral Fusion Brush-On Sun Defense in my purse to touch up throughout the day.

I always make sure to apply sunscreen before heading outdoors, especially when it starts to get warmer and lighter longer. I’m fair and burn easily so I tend to choose a higher SPF, but you should at least wear SPF 30.

The takeaway

There’s a lot to living with psoriasis — and it requires patience, self-care, and a little bit of trial and error to find what works best for you.

While these products have become personal favorites in my journey with psoriasis, it’s essential to consult with a dermatologist to develop a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to your individual needs.

With the right combination of products and strategies, managing psoriasis becomes more manageable, allowing you to focus on living your best life!
